So Much to Hue

In philately, trial color proofs are prints from finished states of the stamp die that are printed in colors different than their issued color.

Sometimes these proofs are true "trial colors" - samples of what stamps would look like in different colors before the final issue color was approved. Often they are produced after the stamps are issued, not to try different colors for approval, but as printing samples or presentation. The color of the stamps was selected early in their development, so most of these proofs were printed for presentation, printer sample books, or gifts.

This page features a collection of trial color proofs of the large numeral postage due stamps.
